The police are aware of attempts by certain groups who plan to stage processions and gatherings after the balloting process throughout the country on Sunday, said Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

He said that based on police intelligence, there were provocative elements among supporters of political parties such as staging processions and gatherings to celebrate the election victory or to protest the results if they were to lose in the polls.

"That's why I emphasise here that any procession to be held tomorrow to celebrate the election victory or protest the result of the polls will be totally prohibited, and police will not hesitate to arrest those who try to jeopardise public order," he said when contacted by Bernama.

As such, he said, police would always be prepared to face any eventuality tomorrow including attempts to bring in the 'Arab Spring' to Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Khalid issued a stern warning to the groups who were alleged to be planning to create chaos on polling day on Sunday, saying that police would immediately detain the trouble-makers and would not compromise with them. At a media conference at Bukit Aman Saturday, he said police had taken action to prevent attempts to mobilise street demonstrations by certain groups on polling day
