KUALA LUMPUR: There is a need to hold a pilot project involving young people in an effort to enliven mosques and Friday surau, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Idris Ahmad.

He said that the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) and related religious institutions should initiate such programmes, by creating a special section for youths to hold activities to enliven the mosques and Friday surau.

"The proposed pilot project is seen to have the potential to bring young people closer because when they are appointed as youth committee members, only they know more about the need to involve the youth.

"I will monitor this effort weekly, including having meetings with them," he said to reporters after officiating the 2022 Federal Territories' Mosques and Friday Surau Parish Committee chairmen conference.

Also present was JAWI director, Datuk Mohd Ajib Ismail.
