A woman sustained injuries after setting herself on fire in the car she was driving at Avenue 5 , Bangsar South City in Kerinchi, Kuala Lumpur.

The incident occurred at around 5pm on Friday.

Brickfields district police chief , ACP Sharul Mansor confirmed the incident that instantly went viral on social media.

According to Sharul, the woman was driving her Perodua Viva in front of the Veris building before charging towards the main entrance.

However, he said, as soon as the car hit the stairs, the woman got out and set herself on fire but the security guard’s swift action prevented the fire from spreading.

The woman was then rushed to the UM Medical Centre to receive treatment after sustaining over 50 per cent burns on her body.

The woman was reported to be in critical condition.

Items such as gas cylinders, bottles containing petrol and a box of firecrackers were found by police inside the Perodua Viva belonging to the woman.

Meanwhile, Sharul said search on the car has found gas cylinder, petrol filled bottle and firecracker box.

Police probe revealed that the 35-year-old had received psychiatric treatment at Selayang Hospital and was terminated from her IT job.

She was said to be single and still living with her family in Selayang. Police are still carrying out further investigations on the incident.
