Quick action by a restaurant waiter and his friends led to the arrest of two men who earlier tried to escape after robbing a 24-hour convenience store in Wangsa Maju here early today.

In the 12.45am hold-up in Taman Bunga Raya, one of the suspects armed with a steering lock was trying to flee with an accomplice on a motorcycle outside the store.

However, the store cashier's screams for help alerted the waiter and his friends who ran after the suspects and overpowered them before handing them over to the police.

Wangsa Maju police chief Supt Mohd Roy Suhaimi Sarif said the police received a call from the waiter and took the suspects, aged 20 and 23 years to the Wangsa Maju police station.

He said the police also seized a number of items including cash and a plastic bag containing an assortment of cigarettes.

A motorcycle belonging to one of the suspects was also seized, he added.
