The Barisan Nasional (BN) being returned the mandate in Sunday's 13th General Election (GE13) is proof that the people still have faith in the coalition to continue to lead the country but polarisation needed to be addressed, according to some non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Malaysian Youth Council president Mohamed Maliki Mohamed Rapiee said the NGO hoped the BN would lead the country to even greater heights.

"Now the government needs to look into the needs of the people in an even more holistic manner particularly those of youths besides the issue of polarisation which appears to have taken a turn for the worse," he told Bernama.

National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) president said the BN's victory should be accepted by all with an open heart without having to raise irrelevant issues.

The focus now was to take the country further forward and foster greater inter-racial harmony, he said.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) president Mohd Khalid Atan said the people should accept the people's verdict which followed the democratic process and that the congress hoped that the BN government would fulfill certain demands made by it which were in line with the national transformation agenda.

1Malaysia Foundation trustee, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said now that the outcome of the election was known, he hoped the government and opposition would discharge their responsibilities for the betterment of the people and nation.

The BN won GE13 with a simple majority, winning 133 of the 222 parliamnetary seats at stake.
