Umno has recovered from its dismal performance in 2008 and is ready to face the next general election, said its deputy president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said there were significant changes in terms of strength and unity in the party besides getting a mileage from transformation programmes mooted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak that had benefited the people.

Muhyiddin said he could see marked improvements in Umno through his own survey him besides meeting party grassroots leaders.

"From what I can see, since initial stages after the 2008 general election until 2012, we have made significant changes and the party has since recovered through the process of transformation led by the president.

"It is clearly apparent that we have changed for the better. We hope this can be translated in the form of support from voters in the next general election. There were lessons to be learned from the last general election," he told reporters after the opening of the general assembly 2012, here Thursday.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said whatever was decided by Umno leaders should be accepted by members for loyalty was a very important aspect in determining the success of an organisation besides commitment to the party's cause.
