Less than a week after the nation was shocked by an accident that claimed six family members on the East Coast Highway 2 (LPT2), another family became the highway’s latest victim.

Two family members were killed while two others were injured after the car they were travelling in skidded and crashed into the road divider.

The incident occurred near the Cheneh Toll Plaza on the LPT2 at 11.15pm on Saturday.

The dead have been identified as Hasan Abd Wahab, 53, and Hanis Sazwani Hasan, 21, who died at the scene due to severe head injuries.

Hasan’s wife Sarimah Abdul Gulam, 53, and his youngest daughter Anis Sazli Zaitun Hasan, 14, sustained injuries to their face and body.

The victims were said to be travelling from Ibok, Kemaman to Felda Neram 2, Bandar Baru Cheneh after watching a Malaysia Cup football match at a relative’s house.

Hasan’s brother-in-law, Mohd Amin Gulam, 46, said the victims had just left his home at 11.10pm.

The vehicle, a Proton Wira, had skidded and crashed into a road divider just as the victims entered the highway through the Cheneh Toll Plaza.

Nine firemen from the Cheneh Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 11.30pm.

Firefighters took 20 minutes to remove the victims trapped in the car.

The two killed have been taken to the Kemaman Hospital Forencis Unit while those injured were sent to the emergency unit of the same hospital.

They are reported to be in stable condition.

On Wednesday six family members were killed after their car skidded and collided with a trailer parked on the emergency lane at KM 258.8 of the LPT2 near the Perasing rest and recreation area.
