A lorry driver died while its two attendants were injured, after the three-tonne vehicle they were in was involved in a collision with a trailer at KM310.1 southbound of North South Highway, near Gopeng, today.

In the 4.25am incident, lorry driver Muhammad Fahmi Abdon@Lazim, 35, died on the spot, while the attendants, Muhammad Rizal Nordin, 22, and Muhammad Rasyidi Hussin, 20, sustained injuries.

Kampar police chief Supt Ng Kong Soon said the body of Muhammad Fahmi had been sent to Kampar Hospital for post-mortem, while the injured attendants sought treatment at the Tapah Hospital.

He said in a statement today that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Gopeng Fire and Rescue Department's spokeperson said a fire engine was rushed to the location after receiving a distress call and upon arrival, the driver and an attendant were still trapped in the vehicle, while the other attendant had been safely extricated by the public.
