Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor denied claims that he had intervened in the Kuala Selangor Umno division re-election recently and that he was just carrying out administrative
tasks.

Tengku Adnan who is also Federal Territories Minister said he was not even involved or sat on any committee, whether the selection committee or special objection committee.

He was commenting on allegations by Petaling Jaya Utara Umno deputy chief, Mohamad Azli Mohemed Saad that he had interfered in the election.

The chairman of the Umno Selection Committee Tan Sri Tajol Rosli made a decision and gave a directive to Tengku Adnan that the Kuala Selangor Umno Committee election would be held on Nov 16.

"At that point, being busy with the Sungai Limau by-election and with Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the management chairman there, I didn't have anyone to consult," he told reporters after the programme with senior citizens at the Parliament level in Putrajaya, Sunday.

Tengku Adnan said Mohamad Azli's call that he make a public apology to the Umno president and the Umno Election Committee in front of all the delegates at the General Assembly next week for his alleged interference was not justified because he was only carrying out his responsibilities.

The re-election for the head of Kuala Selangor Umno division was held because there was an outcry from the division's secretary Ishak Haron over the way the election was conducted on Oct 19.

Selangor Umno information chief Datuk Amiruddin Setro as the incumbent had received 220 votes to beat Ishak by a single vote but in the re-election Amiruddin received 266 votes and was beaten by four votes by the challenger who polled 270 votes.

There were two spoilt votes.
