A student of a public university lost 1Malaysia Book Vouchers (BB1M) worth RM30,000 after being conned by a man named 'Achong' on April 2.

Shah Alam police chief ACP Shafien Mamat said the 22-year-old victim lodged a police report after he realised that he had been cheated.

"The student was acting as a go between for his friends to cash the vouchers and met the man going by the name of 'Achong' who was willing to buy them," he told reporters after attending a blood donation drive at the Shah Alam police headquarters Wednesday.

He said as he was about to do the transaction, two "policemen" appeared and threatened to arrest the student for trying the sell the vouchers which can only be used for buying books.

"The 'Achong' fled and the two bogus police officers seized the vouchers," he said, adding that all three were part of the scam.

He said police had rounded up seven suspects in connection with the scam but had yet to trace the "Achong".
