The Singapore Police Force have brought into custody the Singapore double murder suspect arrested by a team of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) in Johor Baharu, Johor, yesterday.
The suspect was extradited from Malaysia and brought to the Police Cantonment Complex, here at 12.15pm today.
Police Commissioner Ng Joo Hee said the suspect would be charged for the brutal murder of Tan Boon Sin, 67, and his son, Chee Heong, 42.
It was reported that the body of Boon Sin, who had owned a car business, was found in the vicinity of Hillside Drive, while that of Chee Heong, was found outside the Kovan MRT on Wednesday.
"We will prosecute the man to the maximum extent. He is a murder suspect and will eventually receive just desserts for the heinous crime that he is accused of committing," he said at a press conference here.
Ng said today was also a sad day for SPF as the suspect was also a policeman.
"The policeman has also brought dishonour to the 10,000 other police officers who dedicate themselves every day to protecting others, and who routinely risk their own safety to preserve those of others," he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said the suspect in this case was a Senior Staff Sergeant who was arrested after a very close coordination between the SPF and PDRM.
"I would also like to thank the PDRM for their assistance rendered in helping us arrest the suspect. This is an excellent example of the close and deeply valued partnership the law enforcement agencies of both Malaysia and Singapore have built over many decades," he added.
DPM Teo phoned the Malaysian Minister for Home Affairs Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi this afternoon to personally convey his appreciation for the assistance rendered by the Royal Malaysian Police in helping the Singapore Police Force arrest the suspect.
