Suara Wanita 1Malaysia (SW1M) president Sharifah Zohra Jabeen Syed Shah Miskin, who shot to fame following the ‘listen’ controversy, is scheduled to share the stage with Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) student KS Bawani in a forum on Tuesday.

The forum titled Kebebasan Akademik dan Hak Asasi (Academic Freedom and Fundamental Rights) and is organised by Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM). It will be held at the Kuala Lumpur-Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall.

SAMM coordinator Wan Noor Faril Azli Wan Haron confirmed that Sharifah has agreed to take part in the forum. “We received a positive response from her saying that she will attend,” he said.

Aside from Sharifah dan Bawani, the forum will also feature constitutional expert, Abdul Aziz Bari and Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM) lecturer Maszlee Malik.

Sharifah shot to fame after a video clip of her showing her berating Bawani in a forum in UUM spread quickly on Youtube.

The actions of Sharifah was widely condemned by many and spawned a myriad of reactions, including parody videos.

It also served as inspiration for several food and telecommunication companies which made use of the ‘listen’ phenomenon in the advertisements of their respective products.

Several quarters had then urged Sharifah to apologise to Bawani.

However, in a statement yesterday, Sharifah instead said she forgave all parties, including Bawani, who criticised her without checking their facts in regards to the incident at UUM.

She had also alleged that the issue was ‘creatively’ spun to illicit support for the Opposition.
