A construction worker is being remanded for seven days from today over the case of two students who died when they were hit by a van which was rammed by a runaway lorry in front of a school, here yesterday.

The remand order was issued by Kajang Magistrate Court Registrar, Sharifah Fazilah Zulkifli after allowing the police request to remand the 39-year-old man.

The labourer arrived at 11.30 am in a police vehicle at the court premises to facilitate investigations.

In the 12.50 pm incident yesterday, the runaway lorry was parked on a slope but rolled downhill five minutes later.

It was learnt that the lorry driver had gone for lunch near the area.

The runaway lorry also ploughed into two cars and 34 motorcycles parked in front of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Damai Perdana near here, and killed two female students while and a female hawker was injured.

The dead students were identified as Lau Zi Xin and Wong Siow Xuen, both 13.
