The Selangor government will set up a RM10 million special fund in recognition of the eight policemen killed while fighting armed intruders in Lahad Datu and Semporna, Sabah in defending the nation's sovereignty.

Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said the matter would be deliberated further at the state executive council meeting tomorrow before details of the fund would be announced..

"This fund is not only to assist those fallen policemen or soldiers from Selangor, but all those who lost their lives in the incidents," Khalid told Bernama when met at the court complex, here, today.

He said via the fund, the state government would also look at how to assist their (heroes) immediate family members' financial and other needs.

"We (Selangor government) strongly feel that their family members' welfare should be look into since they died defending the sovereignty of our country," said Khalid.

Two VAT 69 police commandos were killed in a gunfire with armed intruders in Kampung Tanduo in Lahad Datu on March 1, while six other policemen were killed in an ambush in Kampung Seri Jaya, Simunul, Semporna last Saturday.
