Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah feted 360 orphans at Istana Negara, here, today in conjunction with the birthday celebration of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.

The orphans are from the Yayasan Anak-Anak Yatim Sultanah Haminah and several welfare homes run by the Social Welfare Department and non-governmental organisations.

At the reception for the orphans which saw dance and song performances to entertain them, Tuanku Haminah also presented each orphan with a watch and laptop computer.

The Queen also handed out cash of RM1,000 to each of 10 orphans who excelled in the Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examinations last year.

Also present at the function were Tunku Panglima Besar Kedah Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah and Toh Puan Temenggong Kedah Puan Sri Tengku Maliha Tengku Ariff.

Among the guests were the prime minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, deputy prime minister's wife Puan Sri Norainee Abdul Rahman, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim, wife of the Second Education Minister Datin Seri Che Kamariah Zakaria and wife of the Chief Secretary to the Government Puan Sri Rohani Abdullah.
