Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has advised road users to exercise caution and abide by all traffic regulations.

He said they should give priority to their safety and that of other road users when on the road.

"I was saddened to read the news that 20,257 road accidents had been recorded, with 155 deaths, since the Ops Selamat (road safety campaign) was launched.

"Your loved ones are awaiting your arrival at the destinations and are hoping for your safe arrival," he said in a post on his Facebook account today.

Bukit Aman Traffic Police chief Datuk Mohd Fuad Abdul Latiff said yesterday that 20,257 road accidents and 155 deaths were recorded nationwide in the seven days following the launch of the 'Ops Selamat' road safety campaign last Friday.

He said motorcyclists and pillion riders made up the largest number of people killed in the accidents, totalling 94, with motorists making up 35.
