Mohamad Amirul Amin Mohd Amir, 28, has recovered from the gunshot wound on his chest, but the RTM cameraman is complaining that his left hand is constantly in pain.

He said the pain was causing him trouble sleeping and that he had to take pain killers.

"From outside it looks as if the wound has healed, but every evening I feel a pulling sensation on the veins and my left hand will be so painful that I cannot sleep at night," he told Bernama here today.

He was shot at 7pm on Dec 1 at the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway when a gunman went on a shooting spree killing a businessman with the title Datuk and two civilians and injuring several others.

Mohamad Amirul Amin was discharged from Penang Hospital on Dec 12 and is now resting at his rented house in Lebuh Chulia here under the care of his mother Bunisa Mohd Ali, 58, and his father Mohd Amir Abdul Salam, 62.

Mohamad Amirul Amin said he had to undergo physiotherapy at the Penang Hospital (HPP) every week and was told he might have to undergo neurosurgery if the pain continues, to replace the vein on the hand.

Meanwhile, National Press Club (NPC) president, Datuk Mokhtar Hussain today paid him a visit and presented a donation of RM1,500 from the Journalist Welfare Fund.

In the shooting incident, three men, including businessmen Datuk Ong Teik Kwangx, 32, were killed and five others including Mohamad Amirul Amin were injured by a stray bullet from shots fired by Ong's bodyguard.

Mohamad Amirul Amin was injured on the left shoulder when the man shot him as he was trying to help the victim thinking he was involved in a road accident.

At the time of the incident he and a friend who is also a print journalist were on their way to the opening ceremony of the Penang Fest in Sungai Nibong, here. - BERNAMA
