LANGKAWI:Two men were detained with over 100,000 cigarette sticks of various brands, believed to be with unpaid duties, found hidden in six vans in front of a house in a raid in Jalan Dato Kumbar, Alor Setar, yesterday,

Marine police (PPM) Region One commander, ACP Rosman Ismail said the raid was carried out by a team of Kuala Kedah PPM Intelligence Unit at 7.30 pm.

They had earlier ran an inspection on one of the vans and found a number of cartons of cigarettes before arresting the two men, aged 45 and 54, who were guarding the vans.

“The team continued the search on all six vans and found a total of 101,380 cigarette sticks of various brands with unpaid tax believed to be distributed in local markets,” he said in a statement, here, today.

The six vans and cigarettes with unpaid tax were estimated at RM453,580.

The two men and seized items were brought to Kota Setar district police headquarters Criminal Investigation Division for further action, he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
