No remembrance events will be held by Malaysia Airlines (MAS) here on Sunday, the first anniversary of the disappearance of flight MH370.

“Everything will be done at our headquarters in Kuala Lumpur,” MAS regional senior vice-president (China), Joshua Law Kok Hwa told Bernama when contacted.

Earlier, Bernama reported that the national air carrier would hold a private service on Sunday in remembrance of its personnel aboard the aircraft, where the families involved could express their grief for their loved ones on board MH370 in private.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the Chinese next-of-kin of those on board the MH370 planned to hold a remembrance gathering on Sunday although they had yet to receive any official permission from the authorities.

The families are likely to gather at places such as the Malaysian embassy, the airport and the Lama Temple.

March 8 marks the first anniversary of the disappearance of MH370 since it went missing en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

The Boeing 777-200ER carrying 239 passengers, mostly Chinese, and crew, was scheduled to land in Beijing at 6:30 am. It is believed to have ended in the Indian Ocean.

The Department of Civil Aviation on Jan 29 announced Flight MH370 was officially declared an accident under international aviation rules, and that all 239 passengers and crew were presumed to have lost their lives.
