The Youth and Sports Ministry plans to send youth volunteers to several more developing and conflict-ridden countries through the MYCorps programme, said its minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

This, he said, followed the success of the first mission in Cambodia which ended last Sunday.

"We will do whatever is within our capabilities to help those in need," he said after closing the Cambodian mission, here last night.

Khairy said 50 more volunteers would be sent for three months to Sri Lanka next month, adding that there were also plans to send groups of volunteers to Myanmar and countries bordering Syria.

"The temporary placement of all the volunteers in these countries hopefully will be able to shape the identity of the Malaysian youths so they could be knowledgeable, skillfull and competitive individuals globally," he said.

The MYCorps programme to Cambodia involved local youths aged between 18 and 30 years who throughout their three months stay in the country among others built rain water harvesting systems and toilets in five schools.
