The Klang Municipal Council (MPK) will set up a special internal investigation team to look into an explosion which occurred during a fireworks show, injuring 14 people in a new year's eve event at Pandamaran Sports Complex in Klang last night.

MPK president Datuk Mohamad Yasid Bidin said the council would bear the cost of victims who received outpatient treatment at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang.

He said the victims were discharged this morning.

"We will also monitor and follow-up with the victims until they are fully healed. MPK apologises to the victims and those who came to watch the event," he said in a statement here, today.

MPK had organised the 'Fiesta Gegar Klang 2016' event at the site from Dec 30 until today.

A total of 14 people comprising four children and 10 adults suffered burns from the explosion.

It is understood that the fireworks used exploded before they took off into the air, injuring people nearby.

Yasid said personnel from the police, fire department, hospital and the Civil Defence Department were stationed at the sports complex throughout the programme and safety measures always took precedence at the event attended by over 15,000 people.

Mohamad Yasid also visited the victims at the hospital shortly after the incident. - BERNAMA
