KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued an advisory on Typhoon Surigae, which is located 1,412 kilometres (km) northeast of Sandakan, Sabah.

In a statement today, MetMalaysia said the typhoon was located about 477 km to the north east of Tacloban, the Philippines.

The department also said that based on observation at 8 pm, it was moving north-west with a speed of 20 km an hour (km/h) and could reach a maximum speed of 203 km/h.

MetMalaysia, however, said the typhoon would not have a significant impact on Malaysia.
