KUALA KANGSAR: Police arrested a man after a two-kilometre chase for driving recklessly and causing damage and injuries to a female motorcyclist in trying to avoid a Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) roadblock, here, last night.
Kuala Kangsar district police chief, ACP Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob said in the incident at about 7 pm, the 37-year-old man was driving a Proton Iswara car heading towards Kuala Kangsar town from Manong.
He said upon seeing a police roadblock near the Highland Park junction following enforcement of the CMCO, the man sped off into a housing area.
"A few patrol cars gave chase before the motorist hit a 25-year-old motorcyclist, causing her a fractured right wrist and small cuts on her body.
“As the man still did not stop his car, the police chased after him until his car hit the back of one of the patrol cars which had cut into into his way," he said in a statement, here, today.
Omar Bakhtiar said the man tried to hit another patrol car which was behind his car but the patrol car managed to avoid it, causing the Proton Iswara to skid into a roadside drain.
Finally, the man was arrested at Kampung Sungai Siput Hulu, near the Chandan Putri housing area. No prohibited items were found in his car while the urine test showed that he was not under the influence of drugs.
Omar Bakhtiar said the man, from Sungai Siput, was found to have no driving licence, his car road tax had expired and he had a record under the Poisons Act 1952, besides eight summonses for various offences.
The man is now being remanded to assist in the investigation under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
