The Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim stressed that his previous statements seen as instigating state-based sentiments reflected his responsibility towards the people of Johor.

In an interview with a sports portal FourthOfficial.com, Tunku Ismail who is popularly known as TMJ, reminded that all quarters should be aware of what has been passed down over the years and the history of Johor within the Federation of Malaya.

“The people should know that the mess the country is in now, is not associated to the Johor royal family. We have always been strong, independent and wise.

“We only joined the Federation of Malaya when both parties agreed to certain conditions and should any of it be breached, we have the right to secede,” said Tunku Ismail.

Tunku Ismail was answering the question of whether his previous statements would cause a split in the national level.

“I will be the future Sultan of this state and my main responsibility is towards the people of Johor. Malaysia is important to me but Johor and JDT will be my priority,” he said.

He added that Johor is not only about football and he is also not concerned with critics who claim that he is using sports for political mileage.

“It is a channel to unite the people and to encourage unity within the community.

“So I am not concerned if there are those who think that I am using JDT as a political tool as that is what I am doing. I have nothing to hide,” said Tunku Ismail.
