A fire incident at a parking lot near Taman Jaya LRT in Petaling Jaya sparked frenzy on social media after news broke today about a car was set ablaze and had damaged six other cars after the fire escalated.

Early tweets contained unverified claims that the LRT station was on fire.




Other tweets claimed the fire was caused by a bomb explosion.



The widespread rumour triggered questions among Netizens over the validity of the news.




Following the incident, the Inspector-general of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar tweeted citing that there was no bomb explosion involved.


Meanwhile, RapidKL on its official Twitter account stated that the Taman Jaya LRT remains unaffected.



Responsible social media users took matters in their own hands in spreading the verified news along with a reminder for irresponsible rumormongers to stop tweeting unverified facts.
