LPF does not censor film contents - Nur Jazlan

The Film Censorship Board (LPF) will not censor all acts of violence, sex and deviant teachings found in films as too much of censoring is not good for the society, said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

He said the purpose of censoring by LPF was to educate the society.

"We cannot censor all the contents in a film production. We have to give some room to film producers," he said in response to a supplementary question from Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PAS-Bachok) in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Nur Jazlan said besides getting advice from the Malaysian Islamic Development Board (Jakim) on film content, LPF also sought advice from other religious bodies, like the Hindu Sangam and Council of Churches.

Censorship would be done only when the content of the film violated the criteria set by LPF, he added.

He said the board would also censor scenes which were regarded as a threat to peace and public order, obscene, extremely violent, deviant teachings and against the norms of a multi-racial society.

However, we will be strict in containing any form of action that encouraged terrorism, he added.
