MCA Deputy President Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai who is going for the party president's post has promised to carry out nine key missions for transforming the party if he was elected at the party election on Dec 21.

His manifesto, themed 'For our next generation, chart a new course', seeks to reaffirm the party's political standing and power as the founding member of the Barisan Nasional coalition, as well as upgrading the party's leadership development programmes by undertaking capacity building to groom young talents.

Liow said the party's internal reforms must be transparent and accountable to the public.

"We must communicate openly to achieve transparency, accountability and good governance, the party machinery should be empowered and resources better utilized.

"The time has come to put an end to mere talk and bravado, thus I want to focus on delivery to the party and this nation," he said when launching his manifesto at the MCA Headquarters, Monday.

Liow also urged the delegates to unite and embrace the changes.

"The MCA is today facing its greatest challenge, especially from the results of the 2008 and 2013 General Election (GE) which has fared badly since its inception, we lost a lot of Chinese support from the two GEs," he said.

"Now I stand for a lasting change to better our party for this and the generations to come," he said.

The party election on Dec 21 will see a four-cornered fight for the president's post as apart from Liow, former president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat and vice president Gan Ping Sieu have also joined the race.
