Enforcement personnel and officers of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) are undaunted by the threats they receive while carrying out their duties, said its minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin.
Describing the actions of those involved as irresponsible and it was if the country does not have laws, Hamzah also said that enforcement personnel were not only threatened and intimidated while making an inspection of business premises, but were also recipients of abusive language.
"There are groups out there who think they are more powerful than us (enforcement officials), they think they are above the law.
"However, in order to carry out our duties, we are not afraid of these threats," he said at the ministry's monthly gathering and also presented appointment letters to 378 enforcement officers here, Thursday.
Hamzah said the department was always open to comments, criticisms and complaints but it must be made through the proper channels.
In another development, Hamzah said they planned to upgrade ICoop College under the Cooperative College of Malaysia (CCM) in Petaling Jaya become a university in an effort to produce government administrative officers.
