According to Alwi, a prisoner is eligible for remission of one third of the sentence if the Prisons Department is satisfied with the rehabilitation of prisoners while serving time in prison.

"In this context, Mohamad Khir was sentenced to 12 months in prison, which began on September 29, 2015 and should end on September 28, 2016.

"He got a remission of four months by the Prisons Department and should serve his sentence until May 29, 2016," he said in the statement.

Mohamad Khir was granted parole on Tuesday after serving six months at Kajang Prison, Selangor.

He added that Mohamad Khir is subjected to the Parole Order outlining 27 conditions which require him to:

He was charged with committing the offence at the Menteri Besar official residence in Section 7, Shah Alam on May 29, 2007.

He was given a 12-month sentence by judge Datuk Wira Mohtarudin Baki at the Shah Alam High Court.

The Federal Court upheld his conviction for corruption on Sept 29, last year.

The Home Ministry added that the first implementation of the parole involved a total of 64 prisoners on July 26, 2008.

Since its implementation up until March 14, 2016, a total of 12,550 prisoners have been allowed to serve their sentence on parole outside of prison.
