Kedah police seized 6,590 machines used for illegal gambling and detained 1,562 suspects in 2,487 raids throughout the state from January till Oct 31.

Kedah acting police chief Datuk Zakaria Yusof said they also seized cash totalling RM80,380 in the raids.

In the same period last year, he said 10,926 such machines were seized, 2,118 suspects detained in 3,179 raids and cash totalling RM77,026 seized.

"This clearly shows Kedah police have been successful in curbing the menace (illegal gambling). We are going all out to rid Kedah of illegal gambling," he told a press conference at his office here on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Kulim police chief Supt Abdullah Arshad said police smashed a housebreaking gang that was active around Taman Kenari, Kulim with the arrest of two suspects, aged 27 and 33, in a raid at Taman Tiong also in Kulim on Oct 27.

Police seized various valuable stolen items in the raid besides 66.09 grammes of syabu, 26 YABA and 575 Eramin 5 pills, he told reporters Sunday.
