The two injured police commandos in the Lahad Datu Hospital are in stable condition, hospital director Dr Tan Hee Ting said today.

They are two of the three commandos who were injured in a gun battle in Kampung Tanduo, 130km from here, yesterday with armed intruders claiming to be members of the royal army of the Sulu Sultanate in the Philippines. One of the commandos is in the Sandakan Hospital.

Dr Tan said the commandos in the Lahad Datu Hospital - Cpl Mohd Tarmizi Hashim, 32, and Cpl Azman Ampong, 39 - underwent surgery to remove bullets from the body.

Mohd Tarmizi was wounded in the right shoulder and both legs while Azman was injured in the buttocks and thighs.

"They are in stable condition and are recovering in the normal ward," Dr Tan told reporters after Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman visited the policemen at the hospital.
