The Magistrate's Court here on Friday sentenced an Indonesian domestic helper to five years' jail and a repatriation back for maltreating a disabled child in Kota Kemuning from last Feb to May.

Magistrate Farah Azura Mohd Saad imposed the sentence on Tini Martini, 39, after she was found guilty of committing the offence, which could cause physical injuries and emotional disturbance on the 10-year-old girl.

She also ordered the accused to be blacklisted from re-entering the country again.

In mitigation, Tini accused expressed regret and apologised over the matter besides promising not to repeat such action in future.

She was charged with commiting the offence at a house in section 31, Kota Kemuning under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children's Act 2011, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years or a fine of RM20,000 or both, upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, the accused was alleged to have maltreated the disabled child by dragging, beating, knocking the head of the victim and stepping on her feet.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Rohaida Che Hamid appeared for the prosecution while Tini was represented hy counsel Nur Elissa Baharudin.
