In the fifth shooting incident reported in the Klang Valley this week, a gunman cooly walked into a house and fired four shots at close range, killing a security guard in Kajang yesterday.

All four shots found their mark on Balamurali Balakrishnan's chest as he was resting in the living room of the house in Lorong C 3/24, Cheras Perdana.

The 36-year-old former convict died on the spot in the 1.30pm incident which appeared to bear the hallmark of a gangland-style slaying.

Balakrishnan's mother who was in the master bedroom was not attacked as the killer walked out of the house and drove away in a black Proton Iswara.

Kajang police chief ACP Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab said the gunman was believed to have entered the house through an unlocked door and upon finding Balakrishnan in the living room, fired four shots at the victim.

He told Bernama: "The victim was a former convict who was released from prison in June. He was working as a security guard at one of the LRT stations near here.

"Preliminary investigations have revealed the victim had five drug-related cases. We are in the midst of determining the motive behind the murder."

The body was sent to the Serdang Hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile, the victim's widow, S. Punavaneswari, 28, said she was away at the time of the killing as she had returned to her hometown in Seremban with the couple's son.

"I last spoke to my husband yesterday, and there was nothing untoward about his behaviour. He rarely spoke about his personal matters with me," she said when met by reporters at the scene of the shooting.

Balakrishnan's shooting is the fifth reported in the Klang Valley over the past week.

One of the cases involved a jewellery trader yesterday, who escaped death when a gunman fired several shots in his direction, hitting him on the right shoulder when the victim stopped at a traffic light junction in Jalan Makmur, Pandan Indah here.

Another occurred on July 29, when Arab Malaysia Bank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi, 75, was killed and his wife, Chong Mei Kuan 49, sustained injuries on the hand and leg when they were shot at close range at a parking lot after the couple left the Kuan Yin Temple in Lorong Ceylon here.
