The Special Ministerial Meeting today has agreed to provide relief on interstate travel from June 1.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, however, said the permission would only be given to spouses who are living apart besides for health and work matters and emergencies such as death occurrence.

"State cross-border travel is still not allowed except for work and emergency cases such as death or medical requirement.

"Following the advice of the PDRM, the Special Ministerial Meeting on the MCO (Movement Control Order) implementation today has agreed that spouses be allowed to travel interstate beginning June 1, 2020," he said at a press conference here on Saturday.

On May 21, Ismail Sabri had announced that no further state cross-border movements were allowed ahead of the Aidilfitri celebrations.

He said the decision was reached at the National Security Council (MKN) Special Meeting following long queues at the police station to get permission to return to the village as it happened in Kuantan.

The relaxation of the rules for spouses who were living apart to be allowed to return to their families on weekends was also lifted by the government.
