The Syariah Lower Court here today fined four men, including two Indonesians RM990 each, in default three months jail, for cross-dressing in public.

Syariah Judge Imamudin Yunus passed the sentence on Mohd Afshan Amrab, 24, Ace Mohamad Suriansah, 23, and two Indonesian nationals Bahtiar, 29 and Adrian Riko, 35, after they pleaded guilty to the charge.

The offence was allegedly committed to conduct immoral acts at Jalan Haji Taib, Jalan Changkat Bukit Bintang and Jalan Putra, here, between 12.10 am to 3.40 am on Oct 15.

They were charged under Section 28 of the Syariah Criminal Code (Federal Territories) Act 1997 which carries a maximum fine of RM1,000 or prison sentence of one year or both.

All four paid the fine.

The Court also imposed a good behavior bond for six months and ordered them to report to the Enforcement Unit of Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) once a month.

Earlier, the accused, who were unrepresented, appealed to be fined as they had to work to support themselves.
