Police believe they have solved four cases of house break-ins and car thefts in the district with the arrest of six suspects including a woman in Lahad Datu and Tawau.

Tawau District Police Chief ACP Awang Besar Dullah said all the suspects were aged between 24 and 42, of whom two were detained in Jalan Teratai, Lahad Datu on Jan 9 by a police team from the Lahad Datu District Police Headquarters.

"At the time of the arrest, the two male suspects were in a black Proton Saga car which had a false registration plate. Investigations found that the car was reported missing in Kampung Pasir Putih, Tawau on Jan 6.

"Further investigations of the two suspects led to the arrest of four more suspects, including a woman, in the Tawau and Lahad Datu area, also believed to have been involved in two cases of house break-ins and two car thefts in Tawau," he said in a statement.

Awang Besar said urine tests found five of the suspects to be positive for the drug syabu. Three of them had previous criminal records including motorcycle theft and drugs.

He said police also seized various items from the suspects including two plasma television sets, house-breaking tools, six handphones, two backpacks and three sewing machines.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code.

Awang Besar said following the arrest of the suspects, police also detained four more individuals including two women, aged between 32 and 51, to help in the investigations as they were believed to have bought stolen goods from the suspects.
