MARANG:A Form Six student has been remanded for seven days beginning today to assist in the investigation into the murder of her former schoolmate.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Engku Nurul Ain Engku Muda at the Magistrate's Court here.

The suspect, who arrived at the court compound at about 10 am this morning, was earlier arrested after giving a statement at the Telemong Police Station, Hulu Terengganu, at about 7.30 am on Monday.

The action was taken by the police following the statement she gave regarding the incident was found to be very suspicious.

On Sunday, Siti Nur Surya Ismail, 19, was believed to have been killed in Kampung Lubok Batu, Telemong, Hulu Terengganu.

The victim was found with several stab wounds, believed to have been caused by a sharp weapon, on several parts of her body, including her left wrist severed.

Police believed the arrest of the suspect who went to school with the victim from Form One to Form Five could uncover the motive for the brutal murder.

The victim’s father, Ismail Muda, 58, told Astro AWANI yesterday that he did not think at all that the suspect was a former schoolmate who had been close friends with the deceased.

"I hope the person who caused her death receives a fair punishment," he said.

Siti Nor Surya's body was buried at the Kampung Beladau Selat cemetery after an autopsy done at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ), Kuala Terengganu.
