Feb court date for three policemen charged with raping Indonesia woman

The Sessions Court today set Feb 25 and 26 next year to hear the case of three policemen charged with raping and forcing unnatural sex on an Indonesian woman in Perai on Nov 9.

Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi said the case was of public interest and had to be expedited, and allowed the hearing for the three accused to be heard simultaneously in the same court.

Constables Remy Anak Dana, 25, and Syahiran Romli, 21, and Corporal Nik Sin Mat Lazim, 33, have been charged with raping the 25-year-old woman at Room 4 of the Perai Police Barracks here between 6.40 am and 7.30 am on Nov 9.

They are also accused of forcing unnatural sex on the woman at the same time, date and place.

The three policemen are represented by lawyers R.S.N Rayer and Abdul Roni Rahman while Deputy Public Prosecutor Norashikin Mokhtar appeared for the prosecution.

At today's proceedings, Rayer asked the court to ensure that the media did not sensationalise the case for fear that his clients would be denied a fair hearing.

Meor Sulaiman, however, did not issue any order to the media.

The court also extended the period of remand of the three accused until the hearing date.
