Early voting for Bukit Gelugor parliamentary by-election involving 148 registered voters is held at four polling centres from 8am to 2pm today.

The four polling centres are Tabika Kemas of Region One Marine Operations Force Base in Batu Uban, Information Room of Air Hitam Police Station, Information Room of Bandar Baharu Police Station and KD Sri Pinang, Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) Base in Gelugor.

Bukit Gelugor parliamentary constituency has 82,431 registered voters while 17 polling centres and 139 polling channels will be opened.

Polling day is on May 25.

The by-election sees a four cornered fight between the DAP's Ramkarpal Singh Deo, Parti Cinta Malaysia vice-president Datuk Huan Cheng Guan and independents Mohamed Nabi Bux Mohd Nabi Abdul Sathar and Abu Backer Sidek Mohamad Zan.

Bukit Gelugor seat fell vacant following the death of DAP's Karpal Singh in a road accident at Km 306.1 of North-South Expressway near Gua Tempurung in Kampar, Perak on April 17.

In the last general election, Karpal (DAP) won the seat after beating Teh Beng Yeam (BN) with 42,706 majority of votes.
