The discovery of the body of a dead baby girl at Bandar Tun Razak here came as a shock to the members of congregation of Surau al-Raudhah.

Mahmud Yusof, 60, had just finished performing his Subuh prayers when he heard some members of the congregation complained about foul stench emanating from an abandoned bag.

Mahmud, who is also a committee member of Surau al-Raudhah picked up the bag which was placed in front of the staircase of the surau to inspect the content.

“It felt heavy and I sensed something delicate and could smell blood. I saw blood trail on the floor where the bag was discovered.

“I felt uneasy, so I left the bag where I found it and lodged a report at the Bandar Tun Razak Police Station,” he told reporters here today.

Mahmud said the incident marked the first since the surau was established some 30 years ago.

Upon his return from the police stations, some members of the congregation had opened the bag and discovered the body of a dead baby.

“No such incident has ever occurred here before and we truly regret that it did. Why would anyone be so inhumane towards the baby?” said Mahmud.

Rompin District chief of police, Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Aidil Roneh Abdullah when contacted confirmed the incident.

He said the case is under the investigation of the police.
