KUALA LUMPUR: As of midnight Sunday ( July 3), Malaysia recorded a total of 2,536 new COVID-19 cases, taking the cumulative total to 4,573,891.

Based on the data from the COVINOW portal, active cases currently stood at 29,793.

Selangor still leads with the highest number of cases reported at 1,070, followed by Kuala Lumpur (538), Perak (239), Penang (140), Sabah (139), Negeri Sembilan (103).

Other states that registered with a two-digit number of infections were Malacca (66), Johor (64), Putrajaya (59), Sarawak (30), Pahang (27), Kedah (26) and Terengganu (17) while eight cases were reported in Kelantan, followed by five each from Perlis and Labuan.

According to the Ministry of Health (MOH) there were three new imported cases, with 2,533 cases being local transmissions.

The country registered another five new COVID-related deaths, taking the death toll to 35,776.

MOH also reported a total of 3,123 new recoveries, which brings the total number of those recovered and discharged to 4,508,322.

Meanwhile, 45 patients were admitted in the intensive care unit, with 26 of them in need of breathing assistance.

As of Sunday, Malaysia administered a total of 6,084 vaccine doses, with about 85.9 percent of the population receiving at least one dose, while 83.6 percent fully vaccinated and 49.4 percent have received booster jabs.
