A cook and a 13-year-old boy were nabbed by police while they were trying to break into a Japanese restaurant in Jalan Laman Rimbunan Raya, Kepong here early this morning.

Sentul deputy police chief, Supt Mohd Sukri Kaman said in the 6.30am incident, the duo were arrested when they tried to escape from the police after they tried to scale up to the second floor of the premises where the restaurant was located.

"The 24-year-old cook was caught after he threw a bag containing burglary tools down to the alley below on noticing the presence of the police," he told reporters.

He said the bag contained a cutter, spanners, a steel rod, screwdriver, and a pair of pliers, and that police also seized a car belonging to the suspects.

He said the boy was seriously injured when he jumped out from the second floor in his bid to escape.

"He suffered head injuries and has been admitted to the Selayang Hospital in a critical condition," he said, adding that the suspects were neighbours in Balakong and did not have past criminal records.
