Three people were killed in a road crash involving an express bus and a car at KM330 Jalan Raub-Kuala Lipis today.

Raub district police chief Supt Wan Shamsuddin Wan Osman said those killed in the accident, which occurred about 4.50pm, were the driver and passengers in the car, a Mercedes Benz. He said the car was on its way from Raub to Kuala Lipis when it collided with the double-decker Transnasional express bus which heading towards the opposite direction, he added.

The car was believed to be attempting to over-take another vehicle at a bend when it crashed into the bus, which was carrying 64 passengers, he told Bernama here today.

He identified the dead were identified as Liew Fatt Meng,49, who was driving the car, Pang Chou Ling, 52, and Yeow Chong Han, 10.

The car driver died on the spot, while his two passengers at Raub Hospital, he added.

Wan Shamsuddin said two other passengers in the car, Phen Wong Som and Yeow Yan Cheow, in their 20s, were seriously injured.

All the victims are from Benta, Pahang and police are investigating if they were related, he added.

He said the bus driver, Mohd Ariffin Yusoff, 53, from Kelantan, escaped with minor injury. All the bus passengers escaped unhurt.
