Three police reports were lodged in relation to a confrontation that took place during the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary by-election nomination day on May 12.

Police spokesman ACP Azmi Adam confirmed that they recorded three statements from two reporters and Independent candidate Abu Backer Sidek Mohamad Zan.

The case is being investigated under the Election Offences Act 1954.

The police also said the case is being investigated from various angles which include calling witnesses who were at the scene to come forward and help in the investigations.

On Monday, Abu Backer allegedly uttered offensive and racist remarks to the Indian community during a press briefing after the candidate nomination session.

Abu Backer claimed his remarks were not aimed Indians but instead at certain parties who participated in street protests
