The body of the final victim in the boat capsize tragedy in Tanjong Karang last Thursday was found today, ending the search and rescue mission by the authorities.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Deaprtment assistant director, Mohd Sani Harul, when contacted by Astro AWANI said the department will shut down operations and conduct scheduled checks at the area to ensure safety.

Today's operation which began at 9am officially ended at 4pm.

The body of G. Shankar, 25, was found at 2.58pm sprawled on the beach in between mangrove trees off the shores of Parit 4 in Sekinchan.

The boat which had 14 people on board made up of nine family members and five workers, departed the Sungai Kajang fishermen’s jetty at 3pm Thursday for a religious rite.

The boat was said to have leaked and the victims tried to draw water from the boat, but it sank about two nautical miles off the shores of Bagan Sungai Kajang during their return trip some two hours later.

Six other victims previously identified were A. Parianathan, 30; A. Muniamah, 49; K. Logaraj, 29; M. Gnaswdree, 59; G. Jaya Sangari, 27 and M. Kunasegaran, 57.

The seven who survived are P. Alumalai, M.Sugamaran, V. Nagaswari, N. Sanmugan, C. Sabtayan, C. Sundraja dan S. Partiven.

They were rescued by local fishermen.
