Barisan Nasional (BN) won the Kuala Besut state seat in Terengganu by a 2,592 vote majority on Wednesday.

BN's Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Rahman, 37, garnered 8,288 votes to defeat PAS candidate Azlan Yusof, 48, who only got 5,696 votes.

The result was announced around 10.15pm by an Election Commission (EC) officer.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Barisan's Dr A. Rahman Mokhtar, who passed away on June 26.

The EC reported almost 80% voter turnout, with a total of 13,188 votes cast at eight polling stations, nine postal votes and 911 early votes.
