Disappointed over the country’s election system, the Bukit Gelugor by-election candidate Abu Backer Sidek Mohamad Zan is pulling out from the race today, a day before the election day.

Earlier he managed to declare himself as the 'winner' in the Bukit Gelugor by-election race before leaving for Langkawi.

“Independent candidates are the victims... we have no hope of defeating DAP in an area not contested by Barisan Nasional (BN)," he told reporters at Kampung Melayu, Ayer Itam on Saturday.

He also claimed there was a 'top source' who said that the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had deliberately given DAP an easy path to reciprocate when the party had given him the win when he contested for the Pekan seat during the 1976 general election.

"When he competed in Pekan after the death of his father, all of the parties (including DAP) gave him a 'walkover ' ... and now Najib wants to reciprocate Karpal’s deed,” claimed Abu Backer.

He also claimed that the Election Commission (EC) was complacent and did not open their office for him.
He added that all of his supporters will follow him to Langkawi tomorrow .

The Bukit Gelugor by-election on Sunday will witness a four-corner fight between DAP, Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM ) and two independents.

Abu Backer will contest against DAP’s Ramkarpal Singh Deo, PCM Vice President Datuk Huan Cheng Guan and another independent candidate, Mohamed Nabi Bux Mohd. Abd Sathar.
