The number of residents affected by the flash flood brought about by the high tide phenomenon in Perak has risen to 287 from 222 involving 100 families, as of 8am.

The Perak State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said 254 of the victims were being sheltered at four evacuation centres in two districts.

It said Manjung recorded the most number of victims with 141 comprising 50 families, who are currently sheltered at Dewan Inderawati, Beruas.

In Larut, Matang and Selama, three evacuation centres have been opened, which are at the Simpang Halt community hall which is sheltering 78 victims, Kampung Jelapang Jaya community hall (22 victims), and Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Boyan, (13 victims).

The flash floods at the three districts were a result of incessant rain lasting about three hours, yesterday.

Meanwhile, the number of affected residents in Kuala Kangsar remains at 33 but no evacuation centre has been opened, while Kerian and Hilir Perak have not recorded any victim. -- Bernama
