An Air Canada flight from Shanghai to Toronto made an emergency landing in Calgary on Wednesday so that several people injured in severe turbulence could get treatment.

"Confirming AC088 Shanghai to Toronto, encountered turbulence en route, diverted Calgary," Air Canada announced on Twitter.

"We are taking care of passengers."

The airline said flight number AC088 was carrying 332 passengers and 19 crew.

"Some will require hospitalization for assessment," it added, without specifying the exact number. CBC television reported that around 20 people were injured.
