Five civilians were injured in a car bombing incident in Kampung Piya, Yaring district in Pattani province in southern Thailand yesterday.

Yaring CID chief Capt Phavit Krachansri said in the 6.30am incident, the blast from the explosives laden car caused a nearby shop to catch fire.

"Three men and two women, aged between 27 and 40, were injured," he told reporters.

He said firemen took about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze and that investigations were underway.

Meanwhile, in Kampong Eyok, Bachok in Narathiwat province, a soldier was injured when a bomb went off this morning while he was providing security for teachers and the public.

Bachok deputy CID chief Capt Paiboon Keadam said the incident happened at 7.50am and that the soldier was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. -- BERNAMA
